What to do when a loved one dies

When someone has died, you should begin to gather critical information as soon as possible. Here’s some of what you will need. This information is applicable to the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago. We do advise you contact us; we’ll be glad to guide you through the necessary steps for your particular case.
Documents you require

  • Identification Card & Birth Certificate of the deceased.
  • Identification Card of the applicant.
  • Medical Certificate which must be stamped & signed by a doctor.

How to acquire death certificates in Trinidad & Tobago

Upon receiving the Medical Certificate Cause of Death, your next step is to proceed to the District Registrar of Births & Deaths to register the Death Certificate. This office will provide you with three (3) copies the Death Registration Certificate. The computer-generated death certificate can be obtained at any Legal Affairs Office of T&T at a cost of $25.00 TT
These documents are very important legal documents and should be handled and preserved with care.
